15 Open Date: February 28, 2024 Close Date: March 9, 2024 SUMMARY The Elders Meals Specialist is responsible for preparing all food served through the Gun Lake Elders meals program.
This position handles safety and food sanitation compliance, as well as training of any support staff or volunteer participants.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or G.

D certificate required Four years of experience in large-scale food preparation, high volume cooking including meal/menu planning Current Accredited Food Safety Certification at Manager level (i.
e.
, ServSafe, American Safety Council) Experience working with budget/fiscal accountability Experience working with Elderly or Native Elder population Working knowledge of Windows XP, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, internet search functions and word processing programs DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: Provides lead direction, training and work review to assigned staff; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work Prepares meals, including for home delivery, following meal-time schedule and established temperature guidelines; prepares meals and food products according to standard recipes and/or other specifications Inspects food preparation areas and equipment to ensure proper sanitary and safety procedures are met; demonstrates competent product knowledge by correct storing and handling of all perishables, maintaining quality and integrity; regularly checks and records storage temperatures Maintains records of food and supplies used, meals served; prepares periodic and special reports Operates cleaning and cooking equipment; participates in the cleaning of the kitchen areas and equipment; ensures proper storage of tools and equipment and the security of the storeroom Ensures that production meets health, sanitation and quality standards established by the food industry and government agencies Receives supplies and verifies the accuracy of deliveries; consults with supervisor on resolution of discrepancies Ensures proper storage of tools and equipment; performs complete inventories of food and supplies; stocks supply as needed; orders supplies as approved by supervisor May perform transportation or delivery as required Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Basic supervisory principles and practices Principles, methods and equipment used in meal preparation in an institutional setting Culinary operations and nutritional service requirements Basic arithmetic Inventory control and record keeping principles and practices Safe work practices and sanitation related to food preparation and service Standard office practices and procedures, including records management Communicating effectively in oral and written forms Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone Must have high level of accuracy and attention to detail Physical Requirements: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Possess Michigan Driver’s License and be insurable on company policy ServSafe Manager certification or equivalent First Aid, CPR and Elder abuse training/certification within three months of date of employment Ability and willingness to travel, locally and out of state, for program requirements, meetings and continuing education May require non-traditional work hours that vary from week to week including working evenings, weekends and holidays as needed to meet position deadlines and requirements; including the ability to respond immediately in case of a system malfunction SECURITY SENSITIVE This position will have access to information that is security sensitive and thereby subject to added provisions.
