*POSITION GOAL: *Provide special education support to at risk and identified preschool children within the inclusive classroom.
Direct engagement through a group basis with preschoolers will be conducted to enhance developmentally appropriate skills in preparation for Kindergarten.
*QUALIFICATIONS:* 1.
Must have one or more of the following: a.
Endorsements in both Special Education and Early Childhood Education.
b.
A major or minor in Early Childhood Education or Child Growth and Development and a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement with full approval from the department.
c.
An endorsement in Early Childhood General and Special Education.

TB testing 3.
Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc.
and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
4.
Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.
5.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
6.
Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
*PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:* 1.
Demonstrate the ability to use computers, software and other current technology.
2.
Demonstrate effective written communication skills; including parent/family communications and child data and reports.

Demonstrate effective oral communication with children, families and other program staff.
4.
Demonstrate effective organizational skills.
5.
Maintain professional atmosphere and demeanor in classroom, acting at all times as a representative of ISD.
6.
Attend and engage in continuous professional development.
7.
Implement high quality developmentally appropriate practices.
8.
Demonstrate knowledge of the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Prekindergarten.
9.
Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team, including co-teaching.
10.
Supervise assigned student teachers, if necessary.
11.
Facilitate ongoing professional development for ISD team staff.
12.
Lead Data meetings on a regular rotating basis for all assigned classrooms.
13.
Participate in Child Find/Project Find activities throughout the year.
14.
Coordinate transition IEP’s for students requiring maximum support with Kindergarten itinerant staff, principal and special education supervisor.
15.
Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of child development, curriculum, child assessment and screening tools, adult learning styles, cultural diversity, and quality improvement including High Quality Curriculum, Program Quality Assessment (PQA) and Conscious Discipline.
16.
Provide effective mentor-coaching and instructional improvement strategies for teaching teams.
17.
Foster understanding and support classroom implementation of universal supports for all children.
18.
Engage in activities with children at their physical level.
19.
Develop and work toward achievement of performance objectives for each assigned child, with a system for data collection and evaluation for these objectives.
20.
Maintain appropriate records.
21.
Involve families in community activities as appropriate.
22.
Demonstrate ability to support child learning opportunities in a variety of settings, based on knowledge of child growth and development and using multi-sensory techniques.
23.
Analyze child behavior, develop and implement behavior programs as needed based on framework of Conscious Discipline.
24.
Maintain student/family confidentiality.
25.
Support implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support within each assigned classroom.
26.
Participate in general staff meetings scheduled outside of regular work hours.
27.
Participate in meetings directly involving children such as staffing, IEP’s, SAT’s, Parent-teacher conferences, scheduled outside of regular work hours.
28.
Create an overall supportive, nurturing, strength-based atmosphere.
29.
Perform other duties as assigned by the St.
Joseph County ISD Administrators.
*PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB:* 1.
Climb steps and playground equipment as needed.
2.
Walk long distances in community-based instruction.
3.
Lift and position physically involved students.
4.
Use universal precautions at all times for personal health and safety.
*REPORTS TO:* Early Childhood/K-12 Special Education Supervisor *ASSESSMENT:* Early Childhood/K-12 Special Education Supervisor *TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:* Salary for this position is based on the IEA Master Agreement.
An additional nine days, for the purpose of Child Find, will be required outside of the contractual working days and provided in a performance contract.
This position includes a three year sign on bonus: $2,500: Year 1 $2,000: Year 2 $1,500: Year 3 We offer Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance on the first day of employment, cash in lieu, if you have Medical Insurance coverage (paid out monthly: $300 1-4 members, $400 5-8 members, $500 9+ members), Life Insurance and State Retirement.
