What You’ll Be Doing
The Controller is a critical business partner for all of the operational leaders located at our Wings Event Center (WEC) and Wings West (WW) locations (business units include the Kalamazoo Wings ECHL hockey team, Special Events, Ice Events, Concessions & Wings West Old Burdick’s restaurant).
This role is responsible for all finance and accounting functions and also manages the ticketing operations team for Wings Events Center.
This role provides a great opportunity to drive business improvements in a fun, collaborative, fast-paced environment! In addition, the role will be important in developing a financial model and budget for the new Downtown Event Center.

Duties may include, but not limited to: Manage all day-to-day financial operations, including: Accounts payable: ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices Banking: processing electronic payments, bank deposits, and monthly bank reconciliations Accounts Receivable: Ensure accurate and timely collection of invoices Payroll: Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll Capital: Track and monitor the progress of approved capital projects and spending vs.
budget Cash Flow: Ensure all operators and bank accounts have necessary cash funds, monitor inventory levels Supervise Ticket Office Operations Manager Responsible for monitoring and reconciling company credit cards Vendor management, including setting up new vendors and collecting W-9s Processing and/or reviewing year-end tax forms (1099, 1042, W-2’s, 1094/1095) Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations Prepare and file for sales tax and make timely payments Track expense reimbursements Prepare monthly financial statements Assists with internal and external audits Adheres to Corporate Finance policies and procedures Provide prompt analysis of month-end results for operations, including business unit and department-level analyses Provide and/or validate reporting for Key Performance Indicators and incentive compensation, including revenue tracking, sales team commissions, expense tracking, etc.
Assist with risk management, including employer insurance, enforcing internal controls, and safeguarding assets Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations Serve as business partner to WEC & WW Leadership teams, including performing Return on Investment (ROI) analysis, evaluating proposed events, setting pricing, holding financial literacy sessions as requested Manage merchandise sales for Special Events Concerts Manage and execute Event settlements with event planners and promoters Preparing post-event ROI analysis for each event As deemed appropriate, attend K-Wings home games and special events as a peer leader and operational support Lead annual Capital and Operating Budget process and prepare detailed budgets Identify opportunities to improve business performance and influence business partners to implement and realize those opportunities Maintain all licenses and renewals Generate analysis and recommendations for individual business units Partner with stakeholders and CFO to develop a downtown event center, financial model Strong collaboration with the Managing Director to drive the results of WEC and WW Assist with any Trademarking related to K-Wings entity Assist Corporate CFO with projects as needed.
Participate and support GHG-wide initiatives as needed Monitor outdoor signage licensing/permitting and partner with applicable SMC/GHG team members for maximizing signage program profitability and usage Qualifications: What You Need for this Position Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance Five years in progressively responsible accounting and/or financial roles Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (or Google Suite equivalents) Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Driven by purpose, mission, values, a growth mindset, and has a sense of urgency Able to work closely with staff through solid communication and verbal skills Able to stand for long periods, up to 10 hours or more Able to stoop and bend Able to lift up to 40 pounds from time to time Able to safely work with potentially dangerous chemicals and equipment Able to comply with safety and health code standards Able to handle responsibilities that require repetitive motion tasks What's in it for You Annual bonus opportunity Accrued PTO starts immediately and is available as soon as a minimum of 2 hours is accrued 401K with 100% match up to 3% and 50% match up for the next 2% Medical/Dental/Vision/Disability/Life Insurance Robust Employee Assistance Program providing a wide range of services including up to 7 free counseling sessions per year Health and wellness reimbursement up to $600 annually for items like massages, gym memberships, running shoes etc.
